Goldy Hyder is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Council of Canada (BCC), a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose membership is comprised of more than 170 chief executives and entrepreneurs of Canada’s leading and largest companies. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Open Text Corporation and has a long track record of service on behalf of several charities and non-profit organizations, including the Coalition for a Better Future and the Business + Higher Education Roundtable. A regular commentator in Canadian media on business, politics and leadership, he hosts the “Speaking of Business” podcast, which features interviews with Canadian innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders. He holds a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Calgary.

Tracy Sletto is the Chief Executive Officer at the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) as of December 2023. Ms. Sletto has been with the CER since 2011, with extensive experience in governance, strategic planning, policy development, finance, strategic communications, and public administration. She has served in a variety of roles at the CER, including Executive Vice-President, People, Innovation and Results and Chief Financial Officer; Executive Vice-President, Transparency and Strategic Engagement; Executive Vice-President, Regulatory; and several Vice-President roles. Before joining the CER, she worked with the federal department of Western Economic Diversification Canada. She began her public service career with the Government of Saskatchewan and had a variety of leadership roles with the Departments of Finance, Post-Secondary Education & Skills Training, and Executive Council. She has a Master of Public Administration, Queen's University and a Bachelor of Arts, University of Saskatchewan. She and her family live in Calgary, Alberta, which is on Treaty 7 territory, home of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations. The City of Calgary is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.

Prior to joining the AER, Laurie Pushor served as Deputy Minister for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources for two years, from 2018 until 2020. He served as the Deputy Minister for the former Ministry of the Economy from 2014 to 2018, and served four years as Chief of Staff for several government departments in Saskatchewan, including Social Services, Energy, and Health. Mr. Pushor’s previous roles include Director of Recruitment and Admissions for the University of Saskatchewan, where he was responsible for Canadian and international recruitment and activities. Prior to this, Mr. Pushor and his family spent three years in Nova Scotia where he played a similar role for St. Francis Xavier University. Mr. Pushor and his family lived in Edmonton for many years before relocating to Nova Scotia. In Edmonton, Mr. Pushor worked with the provincial government in a number of roles, including with the Ministry of Economic Development. Early into his career, he worked for the Lougheed government as well as the Klein administration. Mr. Pushor’s private sector experience includes managing a consulting operation involved with marketing, public opinion research, and fundraising counsel. Mr. Pushor’s wife Debbie is a Professor at the University of Saskatchewan with research interests in parent engagement and parent knowledge. They have three sons.

LISA BAITON is the 6th CEO of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). CAPP represents the Canadian upstream oil and natural gas industry, and CAPP’s member companies operate from coast-to-coast and are responsible for nearly three quarters of Canada’s annual oil and natural gas production and more than 400,000 jobs in nearly all regions of Canada. Since her appointment in 2022, Lisa has overseen the strategic realignment of CAPP’s priorities and advocacy efforts, re-establishing CAPP as a non-partisan evidence-based research advocacy organization and authoritative resource on energy industrial policy. Prior to joining CAPP, Lisa spent a third of her career through three CEO tenures on the global leadership team of one of the ten largest retirement funds in the world (CPP Investments) as Managing Director & Head of Global Public Affairs where she had responsibility for strategy development and program execution covering 56 countries. Lisa has held other leadership roles including as Vice President & Practice Lead at a North American public affairs firm, and within three federal and provincial governments in Canada. [She has a BA in Political Science from the University of Saskatchewan, a MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University) and Schulich School of Business (York University), with global electives completed at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Lisa has an Institute of Corporate Directors ICD.D certification (University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management) and has served 20+ years on various boards of directors.]

Amanda has nearly 20 years of experience working within the emergency management field. Amanda’s current area of focus at Pembina is aimed to increase emergency preparedness and ensure compliance within the Emergency & Continuity Management Program. Amanda’s role requires familiarity with the application of several industry related standards and regulations pertaining to Emergency Management, Business Continuity, and Operations and Maintenance programs. In her current role, Amanda continues to actively participate on industry committees and working groups, liaise with regulators and government officials, and support regulatory audits and assessments. Prior to joining Pembina, Amanda worked with consulting firms who assisted industry member companies with the development and maintenance of their emergency management, business continuity, and health and safety programs. Amanda has also supported municipal departments and non-profit organizations in the development and implementation of their emergency preparedness programs and plans. Amanda is a former volunteer for the Red Cross’ Personal Disaster Assistance Team (PDAT). She has completed both the Industrial Emergency Management Certificate and the Public Sector Emergency Management Certificate through NAIT and has earned the Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) designation through the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI).

Brian Wagg is the Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives at C-FER Technologies in Edmonton. Brian has been with C-FER for over 33 years working on a variety of pipeline-related projects including: transportation of heavy crude, strain-based design for Arctic pipelines, risk assessment of underground storage, and evaluation of external leak detection systems for liquid pipelines. Recently his focus has been on establishing testing facilities for assessing the impact of hydrogen on legacy pipelines, evaluating the potential impact radius for pipelines carrying hydrogen blends and assessing fracture propagation in CO2 pipelines.

Chris has over 20 years of experience in the energy sector with a focus on leadership, investment management and capital allocation. Most recently he was the CIO of the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) where he led four transactions involving 27 Indigenous Communities investing over $400 million into large-scale projects. Prior to AIOC Chris spent 14 years, most recently as a Managing Director, at Azimuth Capital Management, an energy sector private equity fund and 5 years at AIMCO in the private equity and infrastructure groups. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction, from the University of Alberta School of Business, is a CFA Charterholder and holds the ICD.D designation. Chris is a member of the CFA Institute Standards of Practice Council, a global committee that helps to develop and promulgate all the CFA Institute’s ethical standards, and a Past President of the Calgary CFA Society.

Dave Forestell is the Vice President, External Relations Canada for TC Energy with responsibility for Indigenous, Community and Government Relations. Dave served as an advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada covering Indigenous, Natural Resource, Environment, and Infrastructure issues and as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Natural Resources. Dave has held senior corporate affairs roles in mining and banking, including as Chairman of a joint venture mining project in Chile. Dave has a BA and LLB from Western University. Dave is currently Chair of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario Board of Directors and serves on the Board of Governors for the Ontario College of Art and Design University and the Advisory Boards of Matador Network and the Lawrence National Centre at the Ivey School of Business.

Ishrat Oishee is the President & CEO of the Young Energy Infrastructure Professionals (YEIP), formerly YPAC, of Canada. YEIP is a non-profit coast-to-coast professional association for early-career individuals in the Canadian energy industry that consists of a central executive committee, 5 councils and 6 Regional Chapters in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatoon, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic. In her day job, Ishrat worked as a Project Manager at TC Energy, where she managed facilities integrity, high impact mechanical repairs, and inspection programs in Canada and the US for TC Energy’s oil pipelines, such as Keystone and Grand Rapids. She also worked in the Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project. Now, in her current role at the Canada Gas Pipeline Projects team at TC Energy, Ishrat supports major capacity pipeline projects.

Kate Rich, P.Geo., has led various strategies for the public and private sectors related to energy, climate change, water and land management – all with a focus on sustainable development. She has lived and worked in several cities across Canada and internationally. Her current role is the Assistant Deputy Minister of Policy in Alberta Environment and Protected Areas. The Policy Division is responsible for coordination of the ministry’s policy agenda and legislative systems, including a lead role in climate, water, air, waste and circular economy policy. The Policy Division also leads delivery of the province’s climate regulations, including the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation compliance, carbon market, and investment of TIER funds in clean technology and enhanced resilience to a changing climate.

Rebecca Korolnek is a Senior Engineer in the Hydrogen and Modelling Group at DNV. She has over 10 years’ experience in the energy industry, and is based in Calgary, Alberta. Rebecca has led several projects focused on repurposing existing natural gas systems for hydrogen blended service, including pre-feasibility studies and the recently announced BC Hydrogen Blending study. Rebecca is also leading the H4Homes JIP to experimentally study the effects of hydrogen blending on performance of end-user equipment. Rebecca holds a Bachelors of Applied Science in Geological Engineering from Queen’s University, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Engineering and Public Policy at McMaster University.

Sander is Co-Chair of Osler's Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental practice. He specializes in environmental, regulatory and Indigenous law issues for natural resource developers. He has experience with matters before the Canada Energy Regulator (formerly the National Energy Board), the Alberta Energy Regulator (and its predecessor the Energy Resources Conservation Board), the Ontario Energy Board, the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Northwest Territories Office of the Regulator of Oil and Gas Operations and federal -provincial Environmental Assessment Joint Review Panels. Sander also has experience with regulatory, environmental and Indigenous matters before all levels of courts in Alberta. The subject matter of Sander’s recent regulatory work includes oil and natural gas pipelines, oil sands (both mining and in situ), LNG export, hydrogen, offshore drilling, hydro-electric generation, mining (including coal, metal, potash, gravel and diamonds), natural gas processing, electricity transmission and contaminated lands. He also regularly advises clients on their obligations to Indigenous groups and negotiates impact benefit agreements with Indigenous groups on behalf of resource developers. Sander regularly lectures at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law on subjects such as administrative law, environmental law, environmental impact assessments and species at risk. He was also named Lawyer of the Year for Energy Regulatory Law for 2023 by Best Lawyers.

Scott Atha is a Sr. Manager for Pembina Pipeline and leads the LNG marketing efforts for the Cedar LNG project in Kitimat, British Columbia with over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with concentrations in the LNG, LPG, midstream, and upstream sectors. Scott joined Pembina from LNG Limited, where he led the commercial development of the Bear Head LNG project in Nova Scotia, Canada. Prior to LNG Limited, Scott worked for Gazprom Marketing & Trading where he led the commercial development of long-term LNG supply and marketing opportunities in the Americas from 2007 to 2014.

Stephen Buffalo, President/Chief Executive Officer, Indian Resource Council of Canada. Mr. Buffalo is a proud member of the Samson Cree Nation. He graduated secondary school from Athol Murray College at Notre Dame, Saskatchewan. Mr. Buffalo holds a B.A. from Medicine Hat College and B.Mgt from University of Lethbridge. He worked for Peace Hills Trust for 15 years, most recently as the Regional Manager for Southern Alberta. Recently completed the Institute of Corporate Directors designation. ICD.D, the first Indigenous cohort. As President and CEO of the Indian Resource Council of Canada, has worked with bother Provincial and Federal Governments. Continuing to speak out about Canada’s energy sector and combination to Indigenous Rights for prosperity. Mr. Buffalo sits on a numerous boards including being the first ever Indigenous Governor for the Canadian Energy Executive Association, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Committee – Chairman, Board of Directors, University of Calgary Redevelop Program, Clean Resource Innovation Network – was the President of the Notre Dame Hounds – Alberta Chapter Alumni. Mr. Buffalo is traditionally and culturally connected. He is an avid golfer and enjoys dedicating his time also as hockey scout.

Timothy M. Egan assumed the roles of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Gas Association in September 2010. Additionally, Mr. Egan holds the position of President at CGA Enterprises Inc. and serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Natural Gas Innovation Fund Capital Corporation. Prior to these appointments, he served as President of High Park Group (HPG), a notable public affairs consulting firm. With his educational background including an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Ottawa, coupled with common and civil law degrees from McGill University, Mr. Egan brings a diverse skill set to his leadership roles. Having been called to the Ontario bar in 1995, he possesses a strong legal foundation. Furthermore, Mr. Egan is actively involved in the publishing industry as the publisher of the Energy Regulation Quarterly and editor of the magazine Energy. Additionally, Mr. Egan represents Canada on the International Gas Union (IGU), where he holds a seat on the Executive Committee and serves as the North American Regional Coordinator. He also contributes his expertise as a member of the Advisory Board of the Young Energy Infrastructure Professionals (YEIP). Mr. Egan resides with his wife, Patricia (nee Armstrong), and their family, which includes five daughters.

Tristan Goodman holds the position of President and CEO at The Explorers and Producers Association of Canada (EPAC), a distinguished national advocacy organization representing the interests of Canada's energy producers. EPAC boasts a membership of over 100 companies, collectively responsible for a significant portion of the nation's hydrocarbon resources. These companies invest billions annually in the production of oil, natural gas, and renewables, supporting a workforce of over 50,000 individuals spread across every province and territory. With prior experience as Senior Vice President at one of Canada's largest energy regulators and a background working with multinational energy corporations, Tristan is well-equipped to advocate for the Canadian energy industry. Holding a Ph.D., LL.M., LL.B., and other relevant degrees in natural resource management, law, environmental science, and economic history, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role at EPAC.
Three Minutes of Fame
This year's Energy Connections Canada First Annual Conference will see the return of our THREE MINUTES OF FAME (no tabletop displays), where member companies will have a chance to showcase their products and services. Up to 10 Companies on a first come first serve basis (no charge) will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and a new product or service that our Members/Audience should know about.
Each presentation will last 3 minutes and participants are welcome to use slides, which must be submitted one week before the event. To register, please contact Judi Pagonis.
This year's CEPA Foundation Spring Meeting will see the return of our display table program where member companies will have a chance to reserve a tabletop to showcase their products and services. It is expected that attendees will visit the display tables during breaks, meals and receptions.
During the programming on Day 1 (afternoon), each Member Showcase registered company will have 3 minutes of fame to highlight their company’s latest technology or offerings to the Conference Audience.
Display tables will need to be set up on the Tuesday, May 23rd from 6:00pm – 10:00 pm and will be taken down on the morning of Thursday, May 25th following the morning break. Please note that these will be table tops only; large trade show display booths will not be permitted but one pop-up banner per table will be allowed. It is up to the individual companies to decide if they will have their table manned during these times, or they may simply ensure the supplies of promotional literature are replenished regularly.
As part of this program, we will be limiting the displays; the cost to reserve a display table is $200 (6ft skirted table), and individuals can sign up during registration.
